How It All Began...

I spent much of my childhood playing in the magnolia trees in my grandmother’s yard. Many of my memories took place in the cool shade of the dense branches and broad leaves. The sweet scent of the grand blooms takes me back to my childhood still today. My husband too has similar childhood memories under Mississippi magnolias. In my grandmother’s house, there was a room she donned the Magnolia Room. It was filled with rich creams, delicate whites, and deep greens. We weren’t allowed to play in this room, which drew me to it even more. In my child’s mind, the room symbolized sophistication, an understated elegance, and adulthood. The grace and classic southern charm associated with magnolias, along with our fond memories led us to using the leaves flowers in our wedding and then in our home. A magnolia tree was the very first thing we planted in our yard when we purchased our house.
Elegance. Charm. Grace. These are all words I like to associate to my photography. I admire the classic look of natural light, crisp colors, and the simplicity of nature. I aspire to capture the very essence of my subjects, allowing them to stand out in sharp focus by using neutral settings inspired by the magnolia blooms themselves. Our lives as we know them will all one day be distant memories, just as my childhood under the trees. I would be honored to capture your memories for the many years to come.
